Controversial Change

Hard to Believe... but I have completed my 10 speeches in the Competent Communication level in Toastmaster Club.
Feeling So Happy :)
I was checking out my speeches in the blog realized that I had not posted my second speech.
The second speech bought a change in myself, so here I am posting it.
It was given on 2009 November 12th titled "Controversial Change" in Crystal Talk Toastmaster Club.

Good Evening Friends,
I am here today, to deliver my second speech.
The topic that I have chosen for today is about "The Change", and my perspective on the “Controversial Change".

Well, we all hear of motivational phrases like “Change is the only Constant”, “When you're finished changing, you're finished.”

The popular book, ”Who moved my Cheese”, is an eye-opener about change. It talks about, how we normally resist change and then finally adapt to it.

The question that always lingers is “What is really the change that we are talking about ” What are we supposed to adapt and accept”, How are we mould”

Well, today I am going to present to you my viewpoints on the recent changes that the world has seen. I have chosen three topics to present my view points.

First one, is Globalization vs Localization.
In a standard dictionary, “Globalization means “To make global or worldwide in scope or application”.
Localization means” to confine to a locality”.

Globalization started off with the International trading, nevertheless, now it has become the talk of the hour. With the rise of Internet, community, network websites, the world has become really small. We can now chat with people on the other part of the world, as though they were just along with us.
People around the globe are more connected to each other today than ever before in the history of mankind. Information and money flow more quickly than ever. Goods and services produced in one part of the world are increasingly available in all parts of the world. International travel is more frequent. International communication is commonplace.

With all these changes that has happened. Life has suddenly gone to the fast pace.
Now this possess terror to localization
There are two terror points that is questionable. First, with the increasing in terror activities, naxalites, neighborhood tensions, are we ignoring danger signals, stopped thinking about local issues and preaching Globalization.
Second, with the increased influence of western culture and the Cultural Change that has been brought in, educated people in India do not want to believe in the past of the Indian History unless it is adapted or recommended by the West.
Is this not alarming? Youth have become lookalike, spendthrifts, media savvy. The newspapers have started giving more stress on Page 3 then Main news. Is this the change we wanted? Have become overindependent.

The question that I have here is “Why did we change for?

The second topic , “Men's vs Women’s world”.

Is this men’s world or women’s world? The debate goes on and on...

Every day is your day, either you are man or woman.

Well, Research says that out of the total workforce only 23% are women and in the top order only 3%. But then, if you see the Board exams result the majority of the top order is Girls. Then what happens after the Education. Are we missing something? Is there a gap?

My fellow toastmaster, Abhishek, had spoken about the anti female syndrome which is still prevalent in Villages and to some extent in Cities.

Let me focus in cities, we read news regarding the death and tortures of women be at home, office or Cab. The cities are still not safe. They are the easy target. Just becauae a elited few women who work in the IT/ITES sector, we say now it is the women’s world.

So, my question here is: What has changed?

The third one is about “Literates vs Illiterates”.

After independence, the majority of the people in our country were illiterates. Now, the literacy ratio is about 60%.
We are educated people everywhere. But what is the state affair of our country? Has it changed? We are still having the corruption and administration issues.

What is the change with Education that we have got? Have become educated fools? No matter we are literate or not, we are still after monetary benefits.

We still judge people by his outward appearance than his/her values.

So then my question here is:  Have we really changed as humans?

The answers to all these is a big question mark.

The common problem in all this, as I forsee is “As an individual, we have not evolved”, we blindly adapt to the change, w/o foreseeing what is right or wrong.

A possible solution is “having individuality, oneself not becoming a puppet of change”. Of course, we cannot as well change in a gust.

It has been found that the DNA of a human being consists of DNA’S of 84,000 species since the world has been formed. This means that we have adapted and evolved, but skin-deep we are still the same.

I would like end this talk with,
“We cannot change our past. We can not change the fact that people act in a certain way. We can not change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.”

Mahatma Gandhi quoted, “

Be the change you want to see in the world
Thank You.
